New Poems By Joshua Coetzee.

Searching, looking, trying to see
on a quest, really want to find some meaning.
having ideals, standards, unwavering, steadfast being true to something, utmost ones self.

but yet true to more than just the flesh you are.
that rots, withers, wastes away and dies.
being a man, a man of his word. a man of honour.

so many before us who did not fold or fall those who died for belief, truth, one ideal something bigger than the sum of self.
bigger than flesh, lust, greed, anger, money, rotting flesh.

it takes one man to stand in the rift
one man to do the task and not ask why, what’s in it for me.

I look and search on a quest for more.
more than what I am.
I look for meaning.

Don’t you learn ????

They walk backwards
along a long hot highway
in search of ice
on a pilgrimage
trying to find Sodom.

Lady in black

I saw her again today, my heart broke again.
Don’t know her name but I feel her pain.
dressed in black, walking in the park.
day was bright with light but she was so dark.
most try not to look, some don’t even notice.
why do we look at the outside, her soul’s cry I could never dismiss.
the damage of miss spent youth on her face clear to me she is not old but paying a toll with out grace.
young as she is I acknowledge that this could have been me were it not for love and faith that set me free.
we know only what our fear gives us the courage to explore but for her my wish is to set her soul free from its core.
each premature wrinkle tells it's story, the last page still not written faith for me everlasting, mercy abounds. a prayer for her fairy tale ending is fitting.
I saw her then and I see her now, I see the chains of darkness and her past.
my prayer I know is answered, to the sound of free at last free at last Thank God Free at last.

Me I see me

I am what I am
I am who I’ve become
There were many
But now I’m the only one
The only one who
The only one to
Walk through the gates of hell
And still I’m alive to tell
The blind leading the blind
That’s how it went
I saw the dark bars of these gates
Sharp and jagged and bent
They opened
So on into the darkness I went
Step a pawn step
Thought after thought
Seeming it seemed
In my own mind I was caught
I walked through the blood
Still warm from the vanes it ran
And drenched I was red
I walked through hells flames
Burnt and scared
Yet not yet dead
I walked all the way
To the end of hells road
Where only empty skulls lay
I walked over the carcasses
Left there to decay
I found the evil kings throne
Except for my shadow
I was alone
So a seat I did take
Take I did to take a break
Then a mirror did I see
A mirror face down
On the chairs arm beside me
And a curious creature I may be
I just sat there and wondered
Where the devil the devil may be
And why free to roam his realm
He let me be
A quick look in the mirror I took
I took that look to see
And see I did what blood and flame
Had done to me
Seeing this puzzled me
For the devil I searched to see
Was the devil
That was me

Joshua wanted us to include this, his favourite Edgar Allen Poe Poem:

From childhood's hour I have not been
As others were — I have not seen
As others saw — I could not bring
My passions from a common spring —
From the same source I have not taken
My sorrow — I could not awaken
My heart to joy at the same tone —
And all I lov'd — I lov'd alone —
Then — in my childhood — in the dawn
Of a most stormy life — was drawn
From ev'ry depth of good and ill
The mystery which binds me still —
From the torrent, or the fountain —
From the red cliff of the mountain —
From the sun that 'round me roll'd
In its autumn tint of gold —
From the lightning in the sky
As it pass'd me flying by —
From the thunder, and the storm —
And the cloud that took the form
(When the rest of Heaven was blue)
Of a demon in my view —
