Day by Day
by Terry Brinkman

For the past Eight Weeks I have needed to add air to the rear driver’s side tire; an annoying slow leak. With the New Year I decided to take my Crosstreck to Discount Tire and see what they could do. Yesterday morning I had my wife make me an appointment, it was set for 11:30 A.M... So I after painted a Wolf, well two Wolfs and one land scape and a painting of my cat, I headed to Discount Tire. I left for Discount Tire before the appointment ,stopping to pick up fallen apples, I only found a few and there was no ice on my windows.

With little traffic I arrived at Discount Tire fifteen minutes early, few cars in the parking lot, (I was thinking it would be very busy but no long wait). As I am climbing out of my Crosstreck the tire guy met at my door. Asking me of my needs I told him about the slow leak, handed him my key. He would look at my tires and meet me inside in a couple. In the shop the guy told me the tire looked good with a lot of Rubber remaining, they will check out the leak, should only be a half hour or so. I find a place to sit, three or so others were also waiting. I noticed them all playing with their smart phones. Only having a Flip-Phone I can just quietly sit and think; no clock on the wall and I didn’t wear my watch.. oh well. A few days ago I was told one of my work friends was very sick and most likely only had a few days left; I remembered when I was working with him in the 2002 Winter Olympics. After a short wait I see my Crosstreck pull up at the door, I go outside and meet up with the driver, she said they found and removed a screw from the tire, rotated and rebalanced the tires.

I left. Should I go home or to Arbys for two Fish sandwiches for $6.99? I better just go home I need to cut back on eating. Arriving home I look around not seeing any apples I check the community cat’s food and water, all is full. I go in my home and check with my wife if she needed anything, she didn’t, (guess I will go paint).

Then the phone rings I grab it (who is it?) caller I.D. My friend who just a few weeks ago had Heart Surgery and went on a Mexico Cruise. He never calls me when he is on a cruise. Maybe it’s his wife something bad happened; nope it’s him. He said he had to be fast it was costing him he said the work friend I was thinking of at the tire joint was dead; and if I would let him know when his arrangements were. I told him to let Jack know, he always knows stuff before me. Before he hung up Doug, Ken, and the different Terry friends had to chime in so I could hear them over the phone. Hum (did he need to let me about the death or that all those guys were partying without me?)
