Poems

Beware The Time Is Near

The election’s on its way again.

What government will inflict least pain?

Choose wisely, or poverty will remain.

Beware the time is near.

Who will help the NHS?

This is anybody’s guess,

We hear it is in such a mess.

Beware the time is near.

Education also must improve.

To the outside world we’ve lots to prove

The blackhead syndrome to remove,

Beware the time is near.

Be it Tory, Labour, UKIP, Green,

Lib Dem manifestos seen,

Will they say just what they mean?

Beware the time is near.

The election’s on its way again

What government will inflict least pain?

Choose wisely, or poverty will remain.

Beware the time is near.

Beyond

What lies beyond our existence on this earth?

No one returns to tell us heaven exists,

Or if heaven’s door when open, welcomes all,

Muslim, Christian, Sikh.

Perhaps there’s nothing when life’s end befalls us,

Perhaps there is no heaven, perhaps, no hell,

Perhaps as the last page on earth is written

There’s only darkness.

I hope, one day to meet those friends departed,

To laugh, to reminisce, in summer sunshine,

To savour pleasant tasting food and finest wine.

My heaven, beyond.

Blossom

Season of blossom

Yellow, white, pink petals fall,

Carpeting the ground

Broken Windows

The broken windows turn you to a slum,

Though once you were majestic in your youth,

Looking at you makes me feel quite glum,

You’ve aged so much; I fear this is the truth.

I used to play outside here with my Mum,

She used to hide and I would be the sleuth.

The pride she showed and this I can’t deny

To see the poor place now would make her cry.

Why I have come, I really cannot tell,

Perhaps just to rekindle my past life,

When I had the feeling all was well,

Before I was a mother or a wife.

Do I keep the cottage on, or do I sell?

Just thinking what to do will cause me strife.

The broken windows I can mend for sure,

I’ll feel the love when I walk through your door.

Bubble Buddy

I have a bubble buddy,

As we both live alone,

And the government decided,

We can now meet up at home

And behave like just one household,

Meet when and where we like

Go out in a car,

Tandem, or motorbike.

I have a bubble buddy,

We still can’t go out to eat,

The restaurants aren’t open

To sit and have a treat.

Instead we have a takeaway

Delivered to the door,

And with my bubble buddy

I’m not lonely anymore.

The Buttercup Field

Today I saw a field of buttercups

Yellow heads dancing in the breeze.

My spirit danced with them,

Light and golden as they were

On this sunny day, under an azure sky.

If I were an artist I could paint them,

A descriptive poet would

Draw them with words,

But all I could do was take photographs

That fell short in depicting their beauty.

Yet when I close my eyes, I see

A field of buttercups dancing in the breeze

And my spirit dances with them.
