Suspended Animation

Sometimes the world
Seems to take the day off
As if deciding to call in sick

Leaving its creatures
To find their own way
Guided by invisible hands

A couple passing by
Both lost in themselves
Like they haven’t spoken in years

A man that stops
To stare at the ground
Then seems to recall where he’s going

Even a stray cat
Meandering in a dream
Of birds always out of reach

That perch along wires
As if painted upon
The canvas of the blank grey sky
